Questions about bands and lessons
How old do I need to be?
Bands are for ages 12 to 17. Younger players can ask us about lessons.
Do I need to be in a band already?
No. Plug-in bands are for players who have never been in one. Come on your own or bring friends, and a coach listens to you play for a few minutes at a class to try.
Do I need my own instrument?
Bring your own guitar or bass if you have one, and ask your teacher before you buy or rent. Every rehearsal room has amps, a drum kit and microphones set up.
Can my friends and I play in the same band?
Yes, when there is room at your level. Come to a class to try together and your coach will hear the whole band.
Do I have to play the shows?
Shows are where a term ends, and most players want one. If you would rather not, tell your coach and talk it over.
Can a parent watch?
Parents are welcome at shows and open rehearsal nights, and a parent can sit in on a first class. The lesson room doors have windows or stay open.
How long is a lesson?
Thirty or forty-five minutes, private or shared with a bandmate. Lessons run on Saturdays, and a teacher can set up another time for you.
What are the earplugs for?
Rehearsals are loud. Earplugs are available in every room, and your coach will show you how to wear them.
What if I miss a rehearsal?
Tell your coach. A band needs all its players in the room, so a missed rehearsal isn't made up, but a lesson you miss with notice is moved to another time in the month.
Which languages do your teachers speak?
Every rehearsal is in English. Jameel Sleiman also speaks Arabic.
How does tuition work?
Tuition depends on the program, the lesson length and whether a lesson is private or shared. We go over the figures with you at a class to try, with nothing to sign that day.

Still wondering?
